FROSTBURG, Md. (November 12, 2017) - The FDU volleyball team topped John Jay 25-9, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18 in the Quarterfinal of the ECAC Tournament Saturday.
The Devils move to 26-8, and will face Brandeis in the semifinal tomorrow at 12 p.m.
The first was all FDU, committing just one attack error while John Jay made eight with only five kills. Freshman
Rebecca Morse served up an ace to bring up set point, and senior
Courtney Conte put the Devils up 1-0 with a kill of her own.
With FDU leading 5-4 in the second, junior
Lauren Harris served up four straight points, including an ace. As the Bloodhounds closed to within 17-14, senior
Amelia Vetto ended the frame with seven straight markers, including four service aces during the run.
The Devils were unable to complete the sweep, but came back for a win in the fourth set. After falling behind early, Vetto led the comeback, putting the team up 10-6 while tallying two aces during the spurt.
John Jay would get as close as two points, but could not do enough to force a fifth set.
Katie Quinlan and Conte had back-to-back kills to give the Devils the victory.
Senior
Melissa Gaffney notched a double-double of 13 kills and 15 digs, while Harris had nine kills and a team best 25 digs. Vetto set a career-high the six aces, as the team had 10 aces.
