#4 Devils Fall To #2 Messiah, 14-7

GRANTHAM, PA - The fourth-seeded College at Florham Devils were defeated by second-seeded Messiah, 14-7, in the Semifinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Devils end their season with a record of 11-7 while the Falcons improved to 12-4 and go on to play for the championship on Saturday.

Messiah jumped out to a 1-0 lead but the Devils came right back and tied it at 1-1 on a goal from freshman midfielder Nick Ardolino with 6:26 left in the first quarter.  The Falcons got the final tally of the first to grab a 2-1 lead but FDU scored the first goal of the second quarter to tie it at 2-2 thanks to a goal by junior midfielder Adam Koontz.  That's when Messiah made their big run though, scoring five out of the next six goals to take a 7-3 halftime advantage.

The Falcons continued their hot play to begin the third quarter, ripping off three goals in a row to take a 10-3 lead.  FDU didn't quit though, as they notched four of the next five goals to close the gap to 11-7 with 13:33 left in the fourth quarter.  Koontz scored three of the goals while junior midfielder Paul Colflesh added the fourth goal.  That's as close as the Devils would get though, as Messiah responded by scoring the last three goals of the game to earn the 14-7 win.

Koontz finished the game with four goals while Colflesh added two goals.  Senior attack Drew Canfield and sophomore attack Cory Weiss each added two assists.  Freshman goalkeeper Dino Vitale suffered the loss, making six saves.
