Bookmark and Share
MADISON, NJ - Richard Stockton rallied from a 10-1 deficit after three innings to beat the College at Florham Devils by a score of 12-11 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon to win the ECAC Metro Region Tournament Championship.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 33-11 while the Ospreys improved to 22-19.  The Devils will now await a potential NCAA Tournament at-large bid.

Like they have so many times this season, the Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by senior third baseman Joey Santillo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive) and a RBI double by senior catcher Marc Hubbert (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro).  Stockton scored their first run in the top of the third inning to make it 2-1 but the Devils plated eight in their half of the third to grab a 10-1 advantage.  Sophomore shortstop Steve Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) started the inning with a walk and then he stole second and was balked over to third before sophomore outfielder Matt Joiner (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) drove him in with a ground-out.  FDU made it 4-0 on a bases loaded walk by sophomore first baseman Ryan Fandel (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central), 5-0 on a RBI single by junior outfielder Alex Sariyan (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills), 6-0 on a bases load walk from senior second baseman Chris Baldino (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), and 10-0 on a grand slam home run by Seminerio.

Stockton got two of those runs back in the top of the fourth to make it 10-3 before scoring six runs in the top of the seventh to close to within 10-9.  FDU made it 11-9 in their half of the seventh on a RBI single by Fandel but the Ospreys plated two in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 11-11 and send it into extra innings.  With a runner on second in the top of the tenth, senior shortstop Matt Allen (Salem, NJ/Woodstown) singled to right field and senior centerfielder Chris Discher (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) just beat the throw of FDU senior outfielder Mike Zangrillo (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan).  FDU went down in order in the bottom of the tenth to allow the Ospreys to complete their come-from-behind heroics.

Seminerio finished the game 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a home run, three runs scored and four RBI while Hubbert and Sariyan each had two hits and a RBI.  Sophomore pitcher Glenn Cox (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) started for the Devils and got a no-decision, tossing six innings and allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out five.  Joiner took the loss in relief for FDU.
