MADISON, NJ - Sophomore pitcher
Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) drilled three home runs, including a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the eighth, in Game Two after picking up the win on the mound in Game One as the College at Florham Devils swept New Jersey City, 5-3 and 9-5 (8), in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
With the wins, the Devils improved to 13-19.
GAME ONE - The Gothic Knights struck first with a run in the top of the second but the Devils came back to tie it at 1-1 in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch. FDU took a 2-1 advantage in the fourth thanks to a RBI double by freshman second baseman
Christine Antoniotti (Glen Cove, NY/Kellenberg) before making it 5-1 in the fifth on a bases loaded walk by Antoniotti and two wild pitches. Jersey City cut it to 5-3 in the top of the sixth and threatened to tie the game in the top of the seventh but McInaw pitched out of a jam.
Antoniotti finished with a double and two RBI while McInaw and junior outfielder
Brianne Faynor (Cliffwood, NJ/Brookdale CC) each had two hits. On the mound, McInaw tossed a complete game and allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out five.
GAME TWO - The Devils got on the board first in the nightcap with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by McInaw. NJCU came back to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third but the Devils tied it at 3-3 in their half of the third thanks to a RBI single by junior catcher
Megan Boyle (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield). FDU grabbed a 4-3 advantage in the fifth on a solo home run by McInaw but the Gothic Knights tied it at 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning. The game remained 4-4 after seven innings but Jersey City went up 5-4 in the top half of the eighth. In the bottom of the inning, the Devils tied it at 5-5 on a NJCU error and then got the sweep when McInaw blasted a grand slam.
McInaw finished the game 3-for-5 with three home runs, three runs scored and seven RBI while Boyle went 2-for-4 with a RBI. Sophomore pitcher
Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon) picked up the win, throwing all eight innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on 10 hits while striking out four.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 24, 2010, with a doubleheader at King's beginning at 1 pm.
