Devils Pick Up First Two Wins Of The Season

CLERMONT, FL - The College at Florham Devils notched their first two victories of the season on Tuesday afternoon by knocking off Western New England, 5-0, and Franciscan University, 11-3 (5), on the third day of their Florida Spring Trip.
With the sweep, the Devils improved to 2-4.
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND - Sophomore pitcher Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) was the star of the game for FDU, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing five hits and striking out four. She also smacked a solo home run in the third inning to give FDU a 1-0 lead. The Devils made it 2-0 later in the third when junior catcher Brianne Faynor (Cliffwood, NJ/Brookdale CC) scored on a passed ball. FDU added three insurance runs in the sixth inning when freshman first baseman Elizabeth Spiller (Babylon, NY/St. John the Baptist) roped a RBI double while senior shortstop Marysa Cole (Washington Township, NJ/Westwood) also scored on the play due to an error. The fifth run came when Spiller scored on a passed ball.
FRANCISCAN - Spiller went 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI to lead the Devils to the win. Sophomore pitcher Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon) picked up the victory on the mound, tossing five innings while allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and striking out six. McInaw belted another home run and finished 2-for-3 with the home run and two runs scored. Senior third baseman Christine Heyl (Avon, NJ/St. Rose) was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, against New England College at 1:30 pm and against Bowdoin beginning at 3:30 pm.
