Offense Explodes For 21-11 Win Over Salem State

WINTER HAVEN, FL - Senior catcher Marc Hubbert (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and four RBI to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 21-11 win over Salem State on the second day of their Spring Break Trip on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 3-1.

The Devils jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings on their way to an 8-1 lead after four innings were completed.  FDU thought they had blown the game open with a 14-2 advantage after six innings but Salem State cut it to 14-11 in the bottom of the eighth inning and had the tying run at the plate with no outs but sophomore pitcher Matt Joiner (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) got the Devils out out of the jam.  The FDU offense tacked on seven more insurance runs in the ninth to secure the win.

Sophomore shortstop Steve Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) had three hits, including a home run and a triple, two runs scored and two RBI while senior third baseman Greg Geran (Brick, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) finished 3-for-6 with a double and four RBI.  Freshman outfielder Nick Core (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had three hits and two RBI, freshman outfielder Ryan Kalish (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) recorded a double and a triple to go along with three RBI, and sophomore infielder John Pieper (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.

Junior pitcher Brandon Smith (Burlington, NJ/Pennington Prep) tossed a gem, earning the win while allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and striking out eight in six innings.  Joiner stopped the bleeding for the Devils by tossing the final two innings, allowing no runs on two hits.

The Devils return to action on Monday, March 14, 2010, against McDaniel beginning at 11:30 am.
