ELON, NC - The College at Florham Devils played tough and fought hard but came up short against Division I Elon University, 102-68, on Friday evening in Alumni Gym.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-3.
The Phoenix jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the came but FDU battled back and cut it to 9-6 on a three-pointer by freshman guard
Mike Williamson (Piscataway, NJ/Bishop Ahr) just 4:16 into the game. Elon built the lead up to 20-10 but the Devils cut it to 20-16 on back-to-back threes by Williamson and junior forward
George Twill (Mendham, NJ/Mendham). With the score 24-18 with 9:36 left in the first half, Elon went on a 28-14 run to end the half with a 52-32 advantage.
After Elon scored on their first two possessions of the second half to make it 56-32, FDU got a layup from sophomore guard
Adam Katz (Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) and a three-point play from senior forward
Andrew Biancosino (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) to trim the lead to 56-37. Elon's height and speed took over from there though as they were able to up their edge throughout the remainder of the second half on the way to the victory.
Katz finished with a team-high 20 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Williamson had 10 points off the bench while freshman forward
Derek Hall (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) chipped in nine points and five boards.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Stevens beginning at 7 pm.
